Watermark FAQs

Builders, architects, and designers may submit residential kitchens and baths from projects completed after January 1, 2011.

Award categories include Grand and Merit. Winners receive feature coverage either in an issue of Builder or Custom Home and/or online at Builderonline.com and CustomHomeOnline.com.

All submissions should be completed by February 28, 2014.

How many images can I submit?

We require a minimum of 3 images except for Detail entries, which only need 1 image. More images are encouraged up to a maximum of 10. Drawings and renderings are also accepted and encouraged.

What types of files should I upload?

We prefer JPG, TIFF, and EPS files. The files need to be high resolution at a minimum size of 300dpi at 8x10 inches. Floor plans should be EPS or PDF files. All uploaded files must be anonymous with no firm names or logos included.

Do I need to submit plans and drawings?

A floor plan must be submitted for each entry in every category (except Custom Detail). Please submit clear line drawings or presentation plans of the just the room being entered. Please include a North arrow and scale. Other plans and drawings, including site plans, schematic drawings, detail drawings, etc., also may be submitted at your discretion. Kitchens and baths entered in the Renovation category also must include "before" floor plans.

Can I change my entry to a different category after submitting my entry form?

Yes. You can go back into the system and change your category selection until the deadline. After that date, please email shutchins@hanleywood.com to make the change.

What should I do if I'm not sure which category best fits my entry?

Enter your project in the category you feel is most appropriate. If the judges believe it belongs in another category, they will switch it to that category during judging. Your entry will not be penalized.

What is a detail?

Any aspect of the architectural design that is innovative or unique for a kitchen or bath, even for a custom house. These should NOT be off-the-shelf products or materials. Click here for previous winners in this category.

What should I do if my photographer will not agree to the release form?

Photographers are welcome to clarify the language on the release. Images of winning projects will be used in conjunction with the design awards and be published in Hanley Wood magazines, posted on our websites, and used for next year's awards brochure.

Are projects from outside the U.S. eligible?

Yes. We are happy to consider projects located anywhere in the world or from any architect or designer.

How will the entries be judged?

A panel of respected architects, kitchen deisgners, and other design professionals will select Grand and Merit award winners from entries. One project will be chosen from among the Grand winners as the Project of the Year.

When will the winners be announced?

Judging will take place at the end of February 2014. E-mails announcing the results will be sent to all entrants in early March 2014.

When will the winners be published?

Winning projects will be featured in an issue of Builder or Custom Home and/or online at Builderonline.com and CustomHomeOnline.com.
